The Divine Melody is a collection of gems from the Writings of the Bahá’í Faith that refer to the Word of God as music emanating from the Mystic Dove or the Nightingale of Paradise. This beautiful and mystical concept refers not only to the Divine Word as a melody but also to the spiritual calling for us to spread the Divine Word in song and to lift up our voices to the praise and glorification of God.

A song I wrote for the First Australian Baha'i Choral Festival in September 2015, I arranged it for women's voice (SSAA).
Alan Manifold wrote this beautiful piece on the exquisite text on racial unity: ”Close your eyes to racial differences, and welcome all with the light of oneness that all nations should become one and all men become as brothers, that the bonds of unity and affection should be strengthened.” (~ Bahá’ulláh). This is a very simple song that Alan Manifold composed for a cappella Bahá'í choirs. Each part enters on the same melody, then branches out to its own harmony, while the basses maintain the original. Easy to learn, but powerful in its effect. The music for this song was composed by Joyce McLean, mother of scholar and poet, Jack McLean. It was passed on orally to Jack and just recently written down. The Young Voices of Unity Choir sang this beautiful song on February 25, 2012 in the House of Worship for North America, in Wilmette, IL. This song is sung in English then in Isizulu. The composer of the melody is unknown. The SATB arrangement was written by Alan Manifold. The words are written by Bahá’u’lláh: “O Son of Spirit! My first counsel is this: Possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart, that thine may be a sovereignty ancient, imperishable and everlasting”. This piece was composed by Lorraine Manifold. As it has not been published, all are welcome to photocopy it and perform it. All I ask is to please inform me and maybe even send me a recording! Thanks loads. This piece was composed by Hasti Movafaghi, 12 years old, for the Young Voices of Unity Choir. It was premiered by the Young Voices of Unity choir on April 22, 2012 at the Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, IL. This beautiful SATB piece with gorgeous harmonies was written by Stanford E. Scriven (Facebook Page, Choralnet.org). A sound file of a wonderful rendition is also available at the provided links. This beautiful healing prayer was set to music by Adrienne Stengel and arranged for SATB choir by Alan Manifold. |
